Primary School Music

Prep – Year 2 take part in a classroom music program with an emphasis on music appreciation and music theory.

Year 3 – 6 participate in Choir and Band. Students are assessed at the beginning of the year as to aptitude and ability, and then placed in the music program that best caters for them. All students in band and choir groups learn music theory and appreciation and are assessed each semester as part of the reporting system. The bands and choirs perform at school events and the choirs are entered for competition in the Mackay Eisteddfod in October.

Secondary School Music

Year 7 students all participate in classroom Music. Years 8 – 9 students can choose Music as an elective subject.

For the Secondary School Choir, students must audition for entry in this choir and be able to sing on pitch. This is a group best suited to students who have experience with singing and/or choir. The students sing more modern repertoire. They perform at school events, community events and compete at Mackay Eisteddfod in October.

The Secondary School Instrumental Band is overseen by Mr Joel Penaluna. This is an opportunity for students to be involved in a more advanced and collaborative musical experience. The band performs at a variety of school events including Awards Night and Open Day Fair.

Musical

The College puts on Primary and Secondary Musicals. Students audition for roles in these. Participation in school musical often means rehearsals outside of school times, sometimes in holiday times and weekends/school times for final rehearsals and may incur extra costs (costumes etc).
