Whitsunday Christian College can trace its beginning back to a core group of people who had a vison for providing an educational alternative for the Whitsunday community. With great help from Christian Community Schools (CCS), a wonderfully supportive sponsoring church (Whitsunday Baptist Church), support from the churches of the Whitsunday community and with growing enthusiasm and help from the wider community, the school commenced in January 1997 with just over 30 children enrolled.
Whitsunday Christian College, after operating at different venues, moved to its current location at 26 Paluma Rd, Cannonvale in 2002. During this year the first stage of the building program was completed, with the official opening on this new site taking place on November 29, 2002. At this time, the College catered for students from Pre-school to Year 10 and had around 160 students enrolled.
Whitsunday Christian College was taken on by Christian Community Ministries (CCM) in 2004. Under the governance of CCM and through the dedication and hard work of staff, the College became more established and grew in size. The ongoing growth in enrolments saw the next stages of the building program take place. The College also added Years 11 and 12, making it a P – 12 school which allowed students to be part of a learning community where they could commence and finish their schooling journey.
So much has happened since the school’s inception in 1997, which is evidence of God’s good hand of provision and guidance. Whitsunday Christian College has a current enrolment of approximately 300 students from Prep to Year 12. Children and young people from the Whitsunday region attend our school, which aims to be a learning community where every student can flourish.
