This Homework statement outlines the daily time allocations for homework and is designed to assist parents in the supervision of homework.
At Whitsunday Christian College homework takes the form of set homework tasks, assignments, general study and specific study for exams and tests.
Middle and Senior School students are encouraged to undertake home study in the form of revision, preparation for future lessons, personal research work, consolidation of previous work, projects/assignment work, reading novels and preparation for class tests and exams.
To assist parent’s supervision of homework the following approximate daily times allocation is provided.
- Junior School (Years P-2): Daily reading, sight words/spelling, some number work and a little bit of other work as required (around 15 to 25 minutes a day: Monday to Thursday). Plus special projects.
- Junior School (Years 3-5): Daily reading, spelling, number work and other work as required (around 30 to 40 minutes a day: Monday to Thursday). Plus special projects.
- Middle School: Years 6-7: Independent reading, spelling, Mathematics and daily work as required (around 50 to 60 minutes a day: Monday to Thursday). Plus assignments and test preparation.
- Middle School: Years 8-9: Independent reading, spelling, Mathematics and daily work as required (around 60 to 75 minutes a day: Monday to Thursday). Plus independent study, assignments and test preparation.
- Senior School (Years 10-12): the amount of time devoted to homework and independent study will vary according to the student’s learning needs and individual program of learning.
